What is it?
Since 1953 Grado Labs has adapted at our own pace, and the first wireless Grado headphone is only the first step in what’s to come. We took our time to get the sound just right and made no compromises in the GW100. Nothing is lost except the wires.
Inside the GW100 are none other than our signature Grado drivers. These speakers are the same ones we build for our wired headphones, which are finely tuned for the different enclosures we use. Grado Labs’ first wireless headphone is no different, with drivers configured specifically for them. The desired sonic capabilities of the GW100 would not be possible without decades of experience in driver design.
The GW100 are the worlds first open-back Bluetooth headphones. Their speaker housings and internals have been designed from the ground up, now working in tandem to notably diminish escaping sound by up to 60%. There is a design language that’s seen throughout all of our headphones since we started building them nearly 30 years ago. The GW100 continues this, looking like it’s part of the family simply at a glance. These wireless Grado headphones are a milestone in our 65 year history.
How does it work?
With the GW100 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones from Grado, their engineers have constructed a pair of headphones that are designed to retain the signature sound of Grado wired headphones, while losing the wires. These open-back, over-ear headphones connect to Bluetooth-compatible devices, such as smartphones or tablets, and support the Bluetooth 4.2 protocol with aptX.
By using the aptX protocol, the Grado GW100 headphones can receive CD-like quality audio from compatible devices. When paired with a smartphone, you can utilize the built-in microphone of the GW100 headphones to make and receive hands-free calls. Both music playback and phone calls can be managed via the built-in earcup controls.
Still, the company couldn’t survive this long without looking forward, too. That’s why they’ve included a built-in mic for taking phone calls and on-ear controls for music. Plus, the GW100’s enclosures and acoustic chambers have been redesigned from scratch to better suit listening in public. So while you enjoy some of the acoustic advantages of the open-back design, Grado claims 60% less sound will leak out compared to their previous designs.
