What is it?
STAX produce exclusively electrostatic headphones, or “earspeakers” as they call them, in Japan, since 1938. STAX chose the electrostatic technology for its ability to produce transparent sound, and low weight for comfort/ergonomics, both due to the driver design not employing fixed magnets and moving coils, as opposed to other common headphone driver designs. The minimal weight of the driver ensures a very quick response to the signal, creating a more faithful sound reproduction.
The SRM-D50 is a high-performance electrostatic driver and Digital-to-Analog Converter, inspired by the battery-powered SRM-D10. With an elegant all-in-one design, the D50 creates a simple solution for any music lovers to experience the legendary sound of Stax earspeakers.
The SRM-D50 offers a complete electrostatic experience to plug-and-play on any desktop or audio rack. All you need is a USB or Coax digital audio connection, and you are good to go, for the first time ever from STAX! The amplifier section is quite powerful.
How does it work?
The Best Amp/DAC: The STAX SRM-D50 is a desktop amplifier/DAC for STAX electrostatic headphones. It has an ESS ES9018 DAC chip. This coupled with a TI OPA1642 ultra-low distortion op amp gives you a bit-correct signal representation.
High-Quality Sound: The SRM-D50 supports high-resolution audio up to PCM 32/384KHz or DSD 5.6. The R core power transformer offers less leakage flux.
Durable & Compact: The SRM-D50 has been designed to be super-durable. The non-magnetic aluminium chassis is 4mm thick so that it is more robust. At the same time, it is also quite compact to easily fit on a table.
Connect Easily: The chassis contains one 5-pin output for your STAX Earspeaker and a VU meter. It also consists of various kinds of digital inputs like optical, USB and coaxial so that you can use your favourite source along with the SRM-D50.
