ML1 – The First Floating Turntable
The ML1, the world’s first levitating turntable, is the first one designed with a levitating platter to play records in an elevated position. At the core of the turntable is the drive, comprised of coils and magnets with a patent pending. It is a revolutionary technology in the audio universe. Because there are no moving parts inside the turntable and no motors spinning the platter, this creates a truly one-of-a-kind listening experience and minimises vibrations.
When playing, the ML1 is truly the centrepiece of any room. It features a clean design with a twist where nothing is left to chance. Attention to detail has always been a priority at MAG-LEV Audio. For the ML1, the design inspiration was the 1970s and 1980s with their raw minimalistic hi-fi design. In combination with the futuristic drive system, a sleek retro-futuristic look was created. Four different models and finishes allow you to truly express your own sense of style.
The ML1 is designed for people who appreciate high quality sound and innovative design. It comes with a pre-fitted tonearm and cartridge, and can be connection to the rest of your system through its phono output via the RCA cables also included in the package (no built-in preamp).
The drive system in this turntable is where all the magic is. It is completely different than anything else on the market. By using their innovative and patented technology, Mag-Lev were able to not only achieve magnetic levitation, but also to maintain the incredibly precise turning of the platter with sensor regulating software.
In order to help keep your precious vinyl records in pristine condition, the turntable lifts the tonearm at the end of the record. This function keeps records from being scratched and prolongs the life of the cartridge.
When it comes to vinyl, the cueing mechanism plays a vital role in the listening experience. The gentle drop and the precision of the needle is what make the entire process feel even more satisfying.
Tonearm and Cartridge
The turntable comes complete with the Pro-Ject Audio 9cc Carbon Tonearm with carbon-fibre armtube and OM 10 stylus from Ortofon.
All the models also come with an option to upgrade to either the Ortofon 2M Red or Ortofon 2M Black moving magnet cartridge.
The 2M Red cartridge is an all-purpose moving magnet cartridge with a tipped elliptical diamond stylus that delivers open, dynamic sound with a slight touch of warmth.
The 2M Black is Ortofon’s flagship moving magnet cartridge. Its Shibata diamond stylus has a slim, highly polished profile, allowing an exceedingly wide contact area with the groove walls and ensuring notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the highest-frequency groove information. The Shibata also results in reduced record & stylus wear, and reduced distortion and phase error as a result of it’s improved tracing geometry. The cartridge body used for the 2M Black is manufactured from Lexan DMX Piano Black, a revolutionary material that ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances.
33.3 and 45 r.p.m.
Switch between 33.3-rpm and 45-rpm with just a turn of a button. To ensure you have everything you need, a 45-rpm adapter has been supplied, so you can enjoy all types of records.
Platter feet have been added, allowing the platter to rest when switched off. These feet automatically retract when you begin using the turntable, and when the tonearm is placed back in its original position, the feet will automatically rise up and so that the turntable can be safely switched off.
In case of power outages, the turntable has been designed with a UPS system, which stores enough power to safely lift the tonearm, stop the record, and return the platter feet to resting position. This way the turntable and record remain in perfect condition even when the unexpected happens.
Subtle led lighting, in amber or white, has been added, giving the turntable a sleek, futuristic feel, and further enhancing the visual effects of levitation even when the lights are off.
